Agile leadership
for Organizational Leaders
Skills you need to lead your organization safely through the current challenges of modern digital product development.
Leading agile organizations
Organizations today are striving to keep pace with rapidly changing business requirements and understand that the need to react quickly and adapt constantly is becoming increasingly important. Traditional “managers” now have to rethink their role, their relationship with employees and the culture in their organization. Agile leaders are needed to help their organizations thrive in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world.
What our participants say

Upon completion of the training, you will also receive the Scrum Alliance certificate “Certified Agile Leadership for Organizational Leaders” (CAL-O).
Your upgrade to the new CAL-1
The Scrum Alliance is changing the Certified Agile Leadership (CAL) program as of 15.04.2024. The new Certified Agile Leader® 1 (CAL 1) certificate combines the learning objectives of the previous CAL Essentials (CAL-E), Team Leader (CAL-T) and Organizational Leader (CAL-O) to meet the current challenges of the market.
If you only have a CAL-E certificate so far, this training is your upgrade path to automatically receive a new CAL-1 certificate with the change. If you have CAL-E and CAL-T, this completes your knowledge of the “Organizational Leadership” part.

Who is this CAL-1 training suitable for?
This training is intended for all those who have already completed a CAL-E (Certified Leadership Essentials Training) and still need the CAL-O for the further leadership journey to the CAL-2. If you already have a CAL-E and CAL-T, this training is a supplement to the complete first part of the CAL program, you will achieve CAL-E/T/O). Of course, this training addresses not only formal but also lateral leadership roles (e.g. project manager, product owner, scrum master, etc.). As a registered participant, you will receive further details by email approx. 2 weeks before the start of the training.
What is the difference between CAL-ETO and CAL-1?
In March 2024, the Scrum Alliance changed the “Certified Agile Leader®” certification to a linear training sequence, with the CAL-1 now replacing the combination of CAL-E, CAL-T and CAL-O (CAL-E/T/O). The old certifications will be discontinued with 15.04.2024.
The CAL-1 is therefore the successor to the CAL-E/T, CAL-E/O and CAL-E/T/O. Our CAL-1 is also tailored for product leaders (see question above).
Why was the previous program changed?
Updated for the requirements of today’s managers:
The Scrum Alliance has updated and refreshed the agile leadership courses to ensure Scrum Alliance members are prepared for the demands of their role today. Agile ways of working are expected across industries and leaders need to be prepared with agile skills and an adaptive mindset so they can have a positive impact on their teams and organizations.
Clear learning path:
These changes were also made to simplify the structure of the program track:
- CAL 1 is the basic course for managers at the start of their management career.
- CAL 2 will be the course for advanced leaders that requires CAL 1.
The best parts of CAL-E, CAL-T and CAL-O have been combined into CAL 1 so that you can take advantage of all the material in one course. CAL 2 builds on the basic course and offers new opportunities for management practice.
Are there any prerequisites for participation?
Yes, you must have completed at least a CAL-E training course in order to take part in this training. If you have attended one of our CAL-E/T training courses, you also fulfill this requirement.
What impact will the restructuring of the program have on me?
- If you have the CAL-E, CAL-T and CAL-O or a combination of two of them: There is no need for you to take any action, your certifications will automatically be converted to CAL-1 after April 15, 2024. You also do not need to apply or submit anything to receive the CAL 1 certificate – the reclassification is automatic as you have already completed the equivalent of the CAL 1 coursework.
- If you only have one of the CAL-E, CAL-T or CAL-O certificates, you will need another one to obtain CAL-1. Please note that this certificate must be completed by 15.04.2024 at the latest!
- Your CAL-E, CAL-T and/or CAL-O certificates will expire on April 15, 2024.
- You can no longer renew the previous CAL-E, CAL-T and CAL-O certificates, but you can renew your CAL -1 certificate obtained in the course of the restructuring in the usual cycle!
- To participate in the CAL-2 training program, you need a CAL-1 certificate.
How do I get access to the online content?
After your confirmed registration (online registration) for the training, you will receive an email from our workflow with access to the Community Platform and detailed instructions on what to prepare.
We will also activate the “Certified Agile Leadership 1” course for you, where you will find the preparation and content for each module.
Are there any technical requirements for participating in the live online format?
We use the Welo tool for video conferencing in our CAL training. Other tools are “Zoom” and “Miro”. Please understand that we cannot accommodate individual tool requests for public training courses with up to 16 participants. It may be that your company has restrictive guidelines regarding authorized tools or websites, incl. Protocols exist. Please check in advance whether the above-mentioned tools are approved in your professional infrastructure and function adequately. If necessary, please check alternative options for participation (e.g. without VPN, private PC or via mobile phone/tablet). You can check if Zoom works for you here; Welo here and Miro via this link.
As soon as you have registered as a training participant, you will receive all the information you need to participate and familiarize yourself with the tools in good time before the training.
What does "live online" mean?
Live online means that the training is “live”, but using teleconferencing and teleworking tools. We make sure that the interaction between you and our trainers, as well as with the other participants, is as close as possible to face-to-face training (i.e. “live” or on-site). This means you can take part from anywhere with a modern Internet connection.
Differentiation from (purely) “online”:
Fully online training courses, such as our Scrum Foundations training, can be completed at your own pace and at your own pace on our learning platform. There are no dates.
